Introduction of NGDO

Jatio Trinomul Protibandhi Sangstha (hereafter referred to as NGDO) is a national-level network of 106 grassroots Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) working to promote the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in Bangladesh. It works in 25 out of 64 districts in Bangladesh which contain over 30,000 active members. As a leading network of OPDs, NGDO attributed many successes in having built good linkages with government, civil society organizations, NGOs, and the media, which in turn contributed to the acceptance of people with

disabilities within wider society.

NGDO represents the persons with disabilities and their representative grassroots-level organizations. NGDO carries campaigns and lobbies with the government for mainstreaming disability and violence against persons with disabilities. It establishes linkages with social welfare, lawyer groups, local government hospitals, and local NGOs to ensure rights and access to resources. Since its journey, it has been campaigning for legal reforms, implementation of laws and policies, signing and ratification of the UNCRPD (government of Bangladesh ratified CRPD), disability-friendly national budget, inclusive education for children with disabilities, ensuring accessibility, implementation of international human rights instruments including CRPD & CEDAW.

As a result of its advocacy, the Disability Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act 2013 (RPPDA) has been enacted in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
