Activities

As a national network body of OPDs, NGDO’s main activities are as follows:

  • 1 Facilitates forming active organizations involving persons with disabilities, to advance disability rights through mutual cooperation and unified action;
  • 2 Enhances networking with OPDs through regular coordination and organizing of events to raise voice among persons with disabilities regarding their needs and demands;
  • 3 Conducts advocacy to ensure access of people with disabilities to government and NGO agencies and in corporation of disability rights issue into laws, policies and practices, through school and area meetings, workshops with government officials and agencies, NGOs, relevant professionals, including health and legal professionals, and partner organizations, among others(examples include advocacy with government and related concerns to ensure participation of people with disabilities in entertainment, sports and cultural activities);
  • 4 Conducts advocacy to ensure participation of people with disabilities in credit activities operated by government and NGOs and on improving procedures for obtaining assistive devices, and better medical treatment of people with disabilities in government and private hospitals, as well as within the justice system;
  • 5 Conducts advocacy to increase public awareness to change social attitudes towards people with disabilities through campaigns, seminars, workshops, street dramas, including commemoration of various days/ events;
  • 6 Provides medical support and distributes assistive devices, such as, artificial limbs, fixing eye lenses, distribution of wheelchairs, tricycles, crutches, white canes, etc to the people with disabilities through OPDs;
  • 7 Hold skills training programs for people with disabilities on vocational training, computer training etc Disseminate information to OPDs regarding disability issues through meetings including on processes for registration of OPDs and related laws.
